Specifications include, but are not limited to:Jobs that do not disturb lead based paint or that do not create a lead contaminated dust hazard may be performed in the traditional fashion. However, in the absence of a lead based paint assessment, the following precautions and limitations are recommended for all paint preparation work conducted at Dallas ISD facilities. 5.1. No paint disturbance shall occur inside of a school/facility during times of occupancy. 5.2. Appropriate barrier systems must be erected to prohibit unauthorized access inside of the work area. If the work is not completed at the end of the day, the barriers are to remain in place overnight and the work area secured. 5.3. A disposable drop sheet shall be extended at least six (6) feet from the immediate work area prior to any disturbance of paint. For ceiling work, the entire floor and all furnishings shall be covered with plastic. 5.4. Only hand tools may be used to remove pealing or chipping paint. These may include hand scrappers, sanders, etc. 5.5. The use of power tools are prohibited 5.6. All paint disturbances occurring outside of a school/facility shall be conducted with the windows and doors closed. Any window/door that permits air infiltration into the school/facility shall be tightly sealed from the inside during paint disturbance activities. 5.7. Paint disturbances occurring inside of a school/facility shall be conducted with the HVAC system in the off position for systems serving areas where painting activities occur. 5.8. All loose paint chips and dust, including that attached to workers hands and clothing, shall be removed from the work area either through wet wiping, HEPA (high efficiency particulate air) vacuuming, or rolled up into the drop sheeting.
