This is a Sources Sought Notice in preparation for an upcoming procurement. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS), Alaska Fisheries Science Center (AFSC) is conducting market research to determine potential sources for brand name or equal to Leica M80 Stereomicroscope systems for use in Fisheries research.
The North American Industrial Classification System (NAICS) code is 333310 – Laboratory Analytical Optical Instruments Manufacturing. The small-business size standard for this NAICS code is 1,000 employees.

Standard brochures will not be considered a sufficient response to this notice. Submitted Capability Statements shall include the following:

STATEMENT OF NEED
Leica M80 Stereomicroscope Systems or equivalent
PURPOSE: Research supporting stock assessment surveys to assist fisheries managers with population management and dynamic closure areas decision-making.
BACKGROUND: NMFS engages in research projects which are designed to target critical ecological factors which affect marine organism survivability, lifespan, and behaviors. The research will determine age, development, and growth factors in marine organisms under a variety of environmental conditions.
SCOPE: The Contractor shall furnish and deliver the stereo microscope systems, and peripherals listed in Statement of Need. Delivery needs to be made no later than 30-October-2025 to the NMFS Research Facility in Seattle, Washington.
TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS/SALIENT CHARACTERISTICS: The Contractor shall furnish and deliver up to three (3) stereomicroscope systems and peripherals or equivalent that includes & meets the following specifications/salient characteristics:
- K3C camera with pixel dimensions 2.4μm x 2.4μm and a 1ms-10s exposure range
- Optical filter of 650 nm IR cut off filter
- Field view up to 30.7 mm for fast, accurate examination
- trinocular tube, 50%
- power supply for LED3000/LED5000
- Power cable, 2m, USA
- Video tube 0.5x
1) Click stop zoom settings - observation at specific magnification can be easily repeated
2) The modular system offers complete flexibility and upgradeability
3) Resolution up to 309 Ip/mm (1x objective, 10x eyepieces), maximum resolution up to 618 Ip/mm (2x objective, 10x eyepieces)
4) 8:1 zoom ratio with 7.5x-60x magnification.
