SOURCES SOUGHT: This is a SOURCES SOUGHT NOTICE. The U.S. Geological Survey is conducting a MARKET SURVEY to determine the interest and capability of any firm eligible to compete under NAICS Code: 334516 - Analytical Laboratory Instrument Manufacturing with a Small Business Size Standard 1,000 employees for an upcoming requirement for a Laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy (LIBS).
THIS IS NOT A SOLICITATION. ALL COST ASSOCIATED WITH PROVIDING INFORMATION AS REQUESTED BY THIS SOURCES SOUGHT NOTICE SHALL BE THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE CONTRACTOR. Submission is voluntary.
Requirements include but not limited to:
1. LIBS must include Nd:YAG laser operating at the 4th harmonic of 266 nm with 12 mJ operating power at this wavelength and be capable of firing up to 20 Hz and come with safety interlocks. Laser spot size down to a minimum of 20 micron resolution.
2. The spectrometer¿s spectral range must cover at least 190 ¿ 1000 nm with a spectral resolution better than or equal to 0.1 nm. A calibration lamp to confirm wavelength must be included.
3. Microscope must allow for simultaneous sample viewing and laser focusing, include a polarizing filter, motorized objective turret with 3 positions.
4. A gas purge and extraction system must be present to allow for removing of generated dust to keep a clean sample surface at the analysis location.
5. Stage must travel at least 100 mm x 100 mm in the x-y plane with at least 50 mm of travel in the z direction. The stage step must be able to move in 1 micrometer steps.
6. A variety of sample holders to accommodate irregular shapes and geologic thin sections that allow for transmitted light must be included. An airtight ablation cell must also be included for coupling to an inductively coupled-plasma mass spectrometer.
7. Software must fully control all aspects of the unit. It must be able to collect a spectrum from spot, line, grid of points, and depth profiling. A map must consist of a hyperspectral data set (full spectrum at each pixel in the map). The software must have the ability to extract the maximum signal in each channel to generate a maximum pixel spectrum. The software must allow for user-defined calibration curves for quantitative measurement of matrix-matched materials. Software must have chemical imaging module. Software must include a database of atomic emission lines from NIST. Software must be able to export the data in an open source format such as HDF5.
7. Must include at least three days of onsite training provided by the instrument manufacturer.
8. Must include installation by the instrument manufacturer.
