Specifications include, but are not limited to: The vendor will provide a one-day training on Motivational Interviewing: Advanced Communication Skills for the Division of Cancer Prevention and Control program on September 20, 2016 in Bismarck, ND. The training must be for at least seven American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) contact hours. The training content will include coaching - the role and characteristics of a Health Coach; describe the characteristics and role of a Health Coach; explore the Social Cognitive Theory and Health Belief Model and its application with Motivational Interviewing (MI); discuss stages of change; and identify the nuances of telephone coaching. The training content will include an introduction to motivational interviewing (MI) - discuss the origins of MI; identify Gordon’s road blocks to effective communication (coaching); compare techniques between ineffective physician and effective physician; explore the Spirit of MI; and describe the principles of MI. The training content will include Open ended questions, Affirmations, Reflections and Summaries (OARS) - review the use of OARS to build motivation for change; practice using open-ended questions; practice using affirmations; practice using reflections; and practice using summary. The training content will include case studies/explore the use of OARS in participants everyday work; recognize change talk; identify methods to elicit change talk; and apply lessons learned.
