FY 25 - Faro Equipment Certification for Naval Foundry and Propeller Center
Naval Foundry and Propeller Center utilizes stringent quality assurance methods to measure in-process manufacturing and completed parts utilizing specialized interferometers called Faro Laser Tracker equipment. NFPC has fifteen (15) Faro Laser Trackers, one (1) Laser Tracker Probe, two (2) Arms, and two (2) Arm Scanners that require annual cleaning, calibration (ACC) and B89 certification to meet the requirements of the Navy’s METCAL program.Naval Foundry and Propeller Center utilizes stringent quality assurance methods to measure in-process manufacturing and completed parts utilizing specialized interferometers called Faro Laser Tracker equipment. NFPC currently owns equipment produced by Faro Technologies which are vital to the production of components utilized by the Navy to meet critical deadlines for the production and repair of the Navy’s propels. Every year, the trackers, arms, scanners, and probe need to be recertified by the Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) to meet the requirements of the Navy’s METCAL program. The re-certification by the OEM shall inspect, clean, calibrate, and provide necessary repairs to meet the B-89 certification. Since Faro Technologies is the OEM for this equipment and has exclusive rights, there is no other 3rd party vendor that can provide these required services. Faro confirmed on October 30, 2024, in a letter, that they do not allow any 3rd party vendors to provide these services. Failure to procure these services by Faro shall make these lasers unusable, because the Government is required to have the lasers re-certified for use.
