1. GENERAL DESCRIPTION
The Operations Section of the US Army Corps of Engineers, St Paul District is solicitating the procurement of
navigation buoys for use around the Mississippi River Locks and Dams. Quantity is for thirty (30) complete units
delivered to Lock and Dam 5A in Fountain City, WI.
2. SPECIFICATIONS:
A. Restricted Area Buoy
1. Minimum 16 gage steel construction.
2. Void area filled with polyurethane foam.
3. Primed and painted with white outdoor enamel paint.
4. Minimum 18” diameter.
5. Minimum overall height 90”.
6. Minimum of 40” exposure above water line.
7. Two lifting eyes 180 degrees apart, minimum 3” ID.
8. Cast black vinyl with minimum 10-year outdoor rating.
9. Cast orange reflective vinyl.
10. Restricted Area symbol minimum size 10” wide x 14” tall made with 1.5” wide cast reflective vinyl.
11. Includes keel for fast moving current.
12. Design must ensure buoyancy, stability and durability including cold weather climate.
13. Manufactured in accordance to IALA (Association of Marine Aids to Navigation) guidelines.
14. Normal operating life expectancy of 10 years.
