The objective is to restore features of the Elk City Levee for continued long-term performance. This includes protecting the levee from erosion by a nearby bend in the Elk River and maintaining proper drainage away from the levee. In 2020, the USACE Periodic Inspection (PI) of Elk City Levee recommended that approximately 1,320 linear feet of riverbank stabilization with quarry run protection stone be restored. This includes removing trees and brush from the tree line to the riverbank. USACE-approved riprap will be place on top of bedding stone. Slopes will be maintained to drain surface waters away from the levee to river. Optional tasks include grading 300 feet of the outlet channel from drainage structure 2 to the Elk River, excavating and grading a new outlet channel from drainage structure 1 Elk River, and abandoning the unused water well in accordance with Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE) standards.
