This project will repair an existing barracks on Fort Wainwright which is a facility that is in noncompliance with present Army standards. The facility should be compatible with applicable DoD, Army, and base design standards. This project will comply with DoD antiterrorism/force protection requirements per UFC 4-010-01. Building 3718 is a three-story barracks approximately 24,000 GSF and will include 28 housing units for a total of 56 residents. Each suite will have a private sleeping room for each soldier and a shared kitchen and bathroom. The kitchens include a cooktop, microwave, and full-size fridge. These kitchens will not come with an oven. This project will repair or replace all the major building systems and architectural features including interior finishes, mechanical HVAC systems, electrical systems, lighting and building controls, plumbing, fire protection systems, and provide a new building envelope to improve energy conservation. It is expected that the seismic retrofit will require demolition down to the structure and replacement of all systems and finishes. This project will also repair the existing roof with an EPDM flat, hot roof which will also require new parapets to be added. The new roof will be rated up to R-90 for improved insulation performance. Additionally, both exterior stair towers will be repaired with new towers to meet building code requirements for egress.
