Approximately 11,843 acres of federal land is administered by the USACE Fort Randall Project starting approximately two (2) miles downstream of the Fort Randall Dam (Pickstown, South Dakota) at RM 878.0 and continuing upstream along both riverbanks (east and west) and onto both shorelines (east and west) of Lake Francis Case Reservoir (Charles Mix and Gregory Counties) to the southern boundaries of the Lower Brule and Crow Creek Indian Reservations (Brule and Lyman Counties) approximately ten (10) miles upstream of Chamberlain, South Dakota at RM 977.0. Due to the vast distance between opposite ends (upstream vs. downstream) of said lands, the USACE Fort Randall Project has been split into two (2) primary management units (North Unit and South Unit) with the dividing line being the South Dakota Highway 44 Bridge (a.k.a. Platte-Winner Bridge).
