This is a new requirement. The US Forest Service (Alaska Region) seeks to procure (2) brand name only Arctic Cat Alterra 450 ATV’s, with delivery to Ketchikan, AK. The Government intends to award one firm fixed price contract resulting from this solicitation. See attachments for additional details.

Justification for Brand Name only:
There are only 3 Brands of ATV that can be serviced in SE Alaska (Honda, Can-Am, or Arctic Cat). Only 1 (Arctic Cat) can be serviced in Ketchikan, AK. This location is accessible only by marine ferry or by air for warranty or major repair work. Brand name model Arctic Cat Alterra 450 4X4 meets all of the required specifications including local servicing. This brand name request (FAR 6.302-1) reduces the duplication of costs [FAR 6.303-2(b)(9)(ii)] associated with having work performed. Any other brand would have to be shipped to Juneau, Anchorage or Seattle for warranty or major repair work since other vendors are unwilling to travel to Ketchikan.
