Specifications include, but are not limited to: FWP is seeking a vendor to provide conifer removal for 611 acres for grass and shrubland habitat enhancement on the Mt. Haggin Wildlife Management Area. 1. FELLING SPECIFICATIONS: a. Cut trees shall be completely severed from the stump. No hang-up “straps” will be permitted. b. All felled trees shall be severed below the lowest live limb. c. The maximum stump height shall be 4 inches above ground level, as measured on the uphill side of a tree. d. Cut trees shall be felled away from unit boundaries, roads, established trails, wildlife trails, fence lines, established land corners, and streams. Any trees felled on such areas shall be removed. e. Dead standing trees shall not be cut. f. Trees with signs of cavity nesting birds shall not be cut. g. Bearing, section-line, or trail-blazed trees shall not be cut. 2. GIRDLING SPECIFICATIONS: a. Girdle all designated trees greater than 10.0 inches DBH and less than 18.0 inches. b. Girdling can be done with chainsaw, axe, or other methods. The girdling must be done by making two continuous incisions, below the lowest live limb and 4 inches apart, through the bark and cambium. 3. SLASH SPECIFICATIONS: a. Thinning slash shall be confined within unit boundaries. b. Thinning slash shall be removed from all roads, adjacent cut-and-fill slopes, and ditches. c. For areas with less than 20 trees per acre, thinning slash shall be bucked, delimbed, and scattered to depth of less than 18 inches off the ground. d. For areas with greater than 20 trees per acre, thinning slash shall be bucked and delimbed to the extent practicable and piled in accordance with the piling specifications. e. Thinning slash shall be removed from all ephemeral and intermittent stream channels and wet areas that carry seasonal water. f. Thinning slash concentrations shall be removed from all established game trails.
