Specifications include, but are not limited to: 1.4.1. Meter Boxes and Lids - Material 1.4.1.1. Standard material for all meter boxes and lids shall be modified polyethylene – no substitutions. 1.4.1.2. Material shall be uniform throughout for maximum longevity and shall not have any foaming agent that creates air pockets within the polymer body or polymer lid. 1.4.2. Material Boxes and Lids - Vertical and Lateral Load Ratings: 1.4.2.1. Compliant with AASHTO, Design Load of H-10; ASTM C 857-16, Design Load of A-8; 8,000 pounds transferred through a ten inch (10”) x ten inch (10”) steel plate centered in the cover, and body. 1.4.2.2. Compliant with AASHTO, Design Load of H-20; ASTM C 857-16, Design Load of A-16, 16,000 pounds transferred through a ten inch (10”) x twenty inch (20”) steel plate centered on the cover and body. 1.4.2.3. Must withstand H-10 and H-20 loading in incidental, or non-deliberate traffic areas. 1.4.3. Single Service – Potable Water 1.4.3.1. Lids 1.4.3.1.1. Polymer lid shall be constructed of a polyethylene material specifically blended for maximized kinetic friction, and must have a minimum coefficient of friction of 0.60 to exceed testing requirements of Western Underground 3.6 and ASTM D1894-14. 1.4.3.1.2. Polymer lids shall be constructed of a polyethylene material to render an inability to float. 1.4.3.1.3. Minimum relative density of 1.10 according to ASTM D792-08 test method, materials only. 1.4.3.1.4. Material used to manufacture the polymer lid must not include any metal, or foreign objects when tested in accordance to ASTM 792- 08 – no substitutions allowed.
