Specifications include, but are not limited to: Have a minimum of 5 years of experience working with incarcerated populations. Ability to work with a population consisting of diverse tribal affiliations. Will provide spiritual and cultural guidance regarding Native American practices. Serve as an advisor to the Department of Corrections. Final decisions are that of the Director/designee and the Institutions Warden/Superintendent. Visit each institution a minimum of seven (7) times annually. Visits shall include, but not be limited to meeting with Native American Offenders, the facility Chaplain or Spiritual Coordinator to resolve any existing issues related to the Native American population. Serve as a resource to the Department of Corrections Offender Services Office in responding to Native American spiritual grievances. Participate in assisting Native American offenders in the building or rebuilding of sweat lodges. Assist offenders in locating rock and wood to be used in sweat lodge ceremonies. Supply each facility with an appropriate tobacco mix to be used in sweat lodge ceremony. Approve or deny requests by offenders to participate in sweat lodge by confirming the Offenders tribal affiliation. Approval or denial decisions shall be forwarded to Offender Services, or the appropriate facility to ensure ICON is updated.
