Pressbooks is the only self-publishing tool focused on open education, which is the priority of the State Board of Education's focus on increasing access and affordability for students. While there are other self-publishing tools available, none are comparable to Pressbooks in pedological and philosophical approach to open education. Alternatives: Conducted a market analysis of self-publishing tools, including IndiePaper, Time Capsule, Seedling Comic Studio, bbPress, ForumWP, Anthologize, and Tome Press. We ascertained and Pressbooks confirmed that Pressbooks is unique in the open education space. Pressbooks is built around a community of practitioners in open education, while all other existing vendors are simply web-based applications without a philosophical community that aligns with the State Board of Education and Online Idaho.
