The ACHA- NCHA is a nationally recognized research survey that can assist in collecting precise data about students’ health habits, behaviors, and perceptions. They offer a way to map the widest range of health issues such as alcohol, tobacco and other drug use, sexual health, weight, nutrition, and exercise, mental health and personal safety and violence. Survey will collect data about students’ smoking habits, contraception use, mental health issues, relationship difficulties, sexual behaviors, exercise habits, preventive health practices, and perceptions of drug and alcohol use, the NCHA can assess students on all of these topics and many, many more- all in one convenient survey. The System Office has deployed other surveys every two years that no longer meet the needs of topics other than substance abuse. We needed to look at overall wellness, well-being, physical, mental, sexual, and personal safety along with suicidality rates of students and analyze what it all meant along with substance misuse. Homegrown surveys have some serious advantages and drawbacks: No comparison to national data, no history, no validated date and as anything in life human error.
