There will be a textural analysis and a review of the sand particle size distribution. For the textural analysis, the sand sample must be 89-90% sand. The sample will have a maximum of 5% silt, a maximum of 3% clay, and a maximum of 3% gravel. Silt + clay + Fine + Very Fine must not exceed 10%. Gravel + Very Coarse must not exceed 10%. For the sand particle size distribution, Very Coarse will have 10% maximum retained on the #18 mesh sieve. Coarse + Medium will have a minimum of 60% retained on the #35 and the #60 mesh sieves. Medium + Med/Fine will have a maximum of 20% retained on the #80 and #100 sieves. Fine + Very Fine will have a maximum of 5% retained on the #140 and #270 mesh sieves. The sample shall be sent to International Sports Turf Research Center (ISTRC). A particle analysis report from ISTRC for the sand being bid must be requested and confirmation of the submission of a sample shall be included with the bid. When submitting a sample to ISTRC, indicate the name of the sand as named in your product catalog so that name appears in the ISTRC report. Also, request quality control testing that includes particle analysis and shape analysis.
