Specifications include, but are not limited to: 1. MOWING a. Grass shall be mowed when it reaches a height of fifteen (15) inches or more, and shall not be mowed below a height of (2) inches. Mowing operations shall result in a uniform lawn height that is free of scalps. b. All equipment used for the contracted work shall be properly maintained and cutting edges shall be sharpened to minimize turf damage. The contractor shall be responsible for any damages incurred as a result of mower damage to trees, shrubs, or private property. c. All components of the mowing process shall be completed on the same day for each property with no partial mowing being allowed unless weather prohibits further work that day. If unfavorable weather limits the contractor’s ability to finish mowing, the contractor shall return to finish as soon as favorable weather conditions return. d. Mowing of grass will not be allowed when the grass is wet. e. After all components of the mowing process are completed, the sidewalk, landscaping, and other hard surface areas shall be cleaned of grass clippings. f. The contractor shall be responsible for removing and disposing of landscaping debris, including but not limited to: trash, leaves, branches, sticks, grass clippings, and organic debris. Trash and debris shall be picked up before mowing. g. Grass shall be trimmed around all landscape turf edges. Landscape turf edges include all lawn perimeters, tree wells and landscape boundaries that are adjacent to the turf. Care shall be taken to avoid damage to trees and fixed objects. Any damage to trees or fixed objects shall be the Contractor’s responsibility and shall be fixed at no cost to the City. h. The square footage of each mowing area will vary by location. On average, the City of Brookings abates ten (10) properties annually related to lawn care.
