Specifications include, but are not limited to: pulverizing the existing bituminous pavement and base, grading, and compaction. Along with a 2” base course and a 1” wear course of bituminous concrete. Along with completing the construction work under the contract, The Contractor shall also be responsible for engineering services associated with the completion of this project, including but not limited to the preparation of all surveys and test to define surface and subsurface conditions. A. RECLAMATION METHODS Reclaim all existing stabilized base pavement. All existing pavement shall be incorporated in the reclaimed base. All driveways shall be saw cut before any work is to begin. The existing full flexible pavement structure and a predetermined depth of the underlying base materials (12 inches maximum) shall be pulverized and crushed simultaneously with impact crushing or pulverizing hammer mill equipment to a gradation minus 2 ½” and blended into a homogeneous mass, utilizing the asphalt required from the existing pavement as a stabilizer which bonds the material together. Compact all placed reclaimed materials, crushed gravel and any areas of the sub grade, which have been disturbed, to 95% of maximum density. Apply water as required to obtain optimum moisture content during compaction and as required. After reclaim is complete, the reclaimed material shall be placed to final grade. It shall be acceptable for vehicular traffic. The Contractor is responsible for maintaining pedestrian and vehicular traffic through the project area for the duration of the project. The Town of Charlestown will not allow closure of the road. The Contractor is responsible for all cones, barricades, signs, etc., as required for safe traffic flow during the day and night. The Contractor shall provide access to the property of abutters as necessary. B. MISCELLANEOUS RECLAMATION DETAILS Stake the road to establish horizontal alignment of the centerline to assure proper crown. Crown shall be a minimum of 2%. Stations shall be at 100-foot intervals, 50-foot intervals at corners. Provide a neat interface between the existing pavement and the new reclaimed base. This includes cutting asphalt as required via pavement cutting saw. Provide a neat interface with all-abutting streets, and roads intersected. Fine grade and compact reclaim/crushed gravel areas, which require repair due to traffic. The Contractor shall guarantee all the materials and workmanship completed under the contract scope of work to be free of defects for one year from the date of acceptance by the Highway Superintendent or his representative.
