Specifications include, but are not limited to: Fishes shall be sampled using electrofishing gear suitable for use in wadeable streams (i.e., electric seines, backpack electrofishing units, barge-mounted electrofishing units (see attached map for recommended gear at each selected survey site). A sample reach shall be defined as 20-times the wetted stream width, with a minimum of 100 meters and maximum of 300 meters. Block nets shall be placed at the upstream and downstream ends of sample reach. All fish collected during electrofishing shall be identified to species and enumerated. All fish will be returned to the sample reach unharmed. Photos of identifying features (e.g., pigmentation, body shape, lips, opercular flaps) taken from at least one individual of each species collected will serve to verify species identification and shall be provided to IDNR. Representative photos of each survey reach shall be provided. Mussels shall be sampled using visual and tactile search methods. Four person-hours of search effort shall be expended in each survey reach. All live mussels shall be collected. Dead shells representing each encountered species (live or dead) shall be collected and classified as fresh dead or weathered dead. Mussels collected during each search hour shall be held in separate bags and the hour in which an individual mussel was collected shall be recorded.
