The final decision on equivalency will be determined by the requesting Department. The Department is seeking proposals for the annual certification biosafety cabinets and fume hoods at the new Health and Environmental Testing Laboratory (HETL) at the Greenlaw building at 47 Independence Drive, Augusta, Maine. The Department is dedicated to promoting health, safety, resiliency, and opportunity to all Maine Residents. This service is required by OSHA 29 CFR 1910 . This service supports the following laboratory sections: clinical microbiology, laboratory response network bioterrorism, laboratory response network chemical terrorism, environmental organic chemistry, environmental inorganic chemistry, and forensics. Biosafety cabinets and fume hoods are a required safety feature of the laboratory when manipulating certain viruses, bacteria, clinical samples, organic chemicals, inorganic chemicals, drugs, environmental samples, and forensic samples. Biosafety cabinets and fume hoods without annual certification may not be used; resulting in the cessation of work and the delaying in reporting out laboratory test results.
