Specifications include, but are not limited to: The State of Maine is seeking proposals for the purchase of a Digital Preservation System. The Maine State Archives is purchasing software, maintenance, and support for a Digital Preservation System. Over time, record creation, including archivally significant documents, has shifted from paper to digital. The State Archives does not currently have a method to collect and preserve these digital records. The Maine State Archives statute requires that the Department collect the historical records of the Maine State Government. The format of the source record does not have any bearing on the requirement for preservation—both paper and digital source documents must be preserved. A Digital Preservation System is being sought to fill the need of digital records warehousing. The Digital Preservation Coalition defines a Digital Preservation System as the applications and tools used to preserve digital content that enact processes such as ingest, storage, preservation, and access. The goal of this RFP is to define requirements for both the digital preservation system as well as the IT environment in which it will operate including architecture, storage, security, and management of digital records archival requirements.
