Specifications include, but are not limited to: B. Mortar: 1. Replacement restoration mortar shall match the historic mortar in color, texture, and strength. Color must match historic mortar when clean (do not match dirt). Mortar ingredients shall match prototype aggregate, size, gradation, geological material and be capable of achieving original finish texture. Mortar shall be softer in compressive strength than the masonry. 2. Sample to be matched shall be taken from inside a joint, not on the surface. Sample selection shall be approved by the County. 3. The use of slur coats and slurry and scrub coatings is not permitted. 1.2 SEQUENCING AND SCHEDULING: A. Perform brick and stone restoration work in the following sequence: 1. Survey, document and understand existing conditions prior to starting work. 2. Produce test panels and mockups as specified. 3. Clean exterior masonry. 4. Repair existing brickwork and stonework, including replacing severely damaged units and where new steel lintels and openings are installed. 5. Rake out existing mortar from joints indicated to be repointed.
