Specifications include, but are not limited to: The City requires Forensic Pathology Services for the Department of the Medical Examiner (MED) on a case by case basis as the need arises. Services required include Full autopsy examination, Partial autopsy examination, External examination, Records review for “no body” cases, Completion of backlog reports, and providing expert testimony as described herein. The backlog reports typically have the following items: (1) Medicolegal investigator’s report (2) Autopsy and/or external worksheet a forensic pathologist previously filled out (3) Digital photographs investigators obtained prior to examination (4) Medical records (5) Results of any tests the forensic pathologists ordered (6) For some cases, the following items may be available: a. Diagram the forensic pathologists used b. Autopsy photographs c. X-rays d. Law Enforcement reports e. Other miscellaneous documents f. Microscopic slides g. Remaining formalin-fixed tissue and biological specimens Currently, there are approximately 650 backlog reports. The majority of the reports are external examination.
