Specifications include, but are not limited to: The Contractor shall perform a survey of the turtle population that occurs at the NHNGTS. The survey’s focus will be to develop a list of turtles utilizing the site, with special emphasis on detection of rare, threatened, and endangered (RTE) species and their habitats. The survey must record the GPS location of species observed and delineate the habitats of RTE species (if applicable). Species of particular interest include Spotted (Clemmys guttata) and Blanding’s (Emydoidea blandingii) turtles. Methods must include the use of hoop traps appropriate for both target species as well as visual surveys. Contractor may utilize additional survey techniques if appropriate. A minimum of two (2) hoop traps must be placed in the central wetland complex. Additional traps may be set to target species such as Spotted turtles in shallow vernal pools onsite. Traps must be set for a minimum of six (6) nights each month from April through August, with each setting lasting a minimum of three (3) consecutive nights. The Department will apply for all State permits necessary to conduct the work and will coordinate with the NH Fish & Game Department where appropriate. The Contractor must adhere to all permit conditions. Furthermore, the Contract shall follow the decontamination protocol developed by the Northeast Partners in Amphibian and Reptile Conservation.
