Specifications include, but are not limited to: The Beneficial Use Reconnaissance Program (BURP) is designed to incorporate rapid bioassessment protocols into a statewide monitoring and assessment program aimed at determining the existing uses and beneficial use support status of Idaho’s water bodies. The program has been operating since 1994 and provides consistent water body monitoring and assessment as outlined by the Clean Water Act (Code of Federal Regulations 39.3601). Collecting and measuring key water quality variables aids DEQ in determining water body compliance with water quality standards and criteria. A major component of the protocols used in BURP is the collection, identification, and enumeration of aquatic macroinvertebrates. .
