Specifications include, but are not limited to: The Camp Dawson Environmental Office (CDEO) is responsible for managing the forest land and old fields at the West Virginia Army National Guard (WVARNG) Camp Dawson Army Training Site. The CDEO is responsible for the development and execution of all forest related activities including invasive species eradication. According to the Camp Dawson Forest Management Plan, and the Invasive Plant Inventory, Assessment and Management Plan, the Volkstone Tract and the Camp Dawson Tract forest stands contain an unacceptable amount of woody and herbaceous invasive plant species. An Invasive Species Eradication Plan (ISEP) was developed and treatment was started in 2004. The ISEP is updated and modified each year according to management goals. Camp Dawson Army Training Site consists of four noncontiguous tracts of land; Volkstone, Camp Dawson, Pringle, and Briery Tract. The Volkstone Tract is located 1 mile east of Kingwood, West Virginia, from route 7, turn south on route 72, the tract is parallel to route 72 (tract located mostly west and east of route 72) from route 7 to Morgan Run. The majority of the tract is forested. The Camp Dawson Tract is located 1.5 miles east of Kingwood, West Virginia, from route 7, turn south on Army Road, the tract is around the Camp Dawson facilities. The area targeted for priority treatment in 2023 being the Camp Dawson Security Fence, motor pools, generators, and training areas. The Pringle Tract is located approximately 2.5 miles south of the Volkstone Tract on route 72 and is comprised of mostly reclaimed strip mine land. Briery Tract is located five miles southeast of Camp Dawson. Starting at the Cheat River Bridge, follow Route 7 East for ¼ mile, turn right and follow Beatty Church Road (CR 7/13) for 5.0 miles to Briery Tract.
