In a continuing effort to implement effective and cost-efficient wildlife management practices on land owned by the state’s hunters and fishermen, the Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks is authorizing cattle grazing on pasture G01, 85 acres, on Cheyenne Bottoms Wildlife Area. Annual grazing allotment will be 8.5 animal units. Grazing allotment may be adjusted annually depending on range conditions. By February 1st of each year, actual stocking rates will be determined by the Area Manager. Annual grazing period is April 15th through August 15th. Grazing rights are to be let by competitive bidding on a three-year lease beginning in 2023 and ending August 31, 2025. At the end of the 3-year lease, the contract may be extended for up to 3 additional 3-year periods upon agreement by both parties. Prospective bidders must recognize that the Department is utilizing grazing agreements solely to further wildlife benefits on its land, and grazing rates and conditions may differ from those common to the private sector.
