The United States Forest Service (Tongass National Forest) requires 1 mile of Red or Yellow cedar 'puncheon boards' (5,280 linear feet) for trail reconstruction of the Thayer Lake Trail. The trail is located in and around wet environments - fresh and saltwater. Materials provided need to withstand these elements.
Delivery by April 15th 2022 to Juneau, AK will be coordinated with the Juneau Ranger District.
Puncheon boards may be rough and cut on 1 side, untreated and rustic in nature with no bark, though sapwood may be acceptable. They should be assembled in bundles of 4 (1,320 bundles) for ease of hauling into job sites via pack boards.
Due to the abundance of material wasted in the manufacture of boards in the 12" width dimension, and with a continuing goal to reduce environmental impact, this dimension can be reduced to 6", 8" or 10" so less material is consumed. Regarding the order in entirety, at a maximum, 70% of the boards delivered need to be 12" in width while the remaining 30% can be comprised of boards with the 6, 8 or 10 inch width.
In order to meet historical requirements for use in the field, boards must be milled with a grooved/corduroy top or be hand split with the grain. Rough sawn/milled tops do not meet these specifications and are not allowed. Please see the attached documentation for specifics.
