Specifications include, but are not limited to: The New Mexico Department of Transportation (NMDOT, Department or Agency) is requesting proposals from qualified Offerors to provide Phase IC and Phase II Services for US 64 and US 491 Intersection of San Francisco Peak Blvd., to Hesperus Peak Blvd. This segment of US 64/491 is in the northwest corner of New Mexico within NMDOT District 5 and San Juan County. US 491 enters New Mexico north of Shiprock and continues south until it meets I-40. US 64 traverses the northern part of the state from the Texas border to the Arizona border. The two highways meet and merge to cross the San Juan River in Shiprock, NM. US 64 is an important connection between communities in northwest New Mexico including Shiprock, Farmington, and southwestern Colorado. The existing crossing consists of two bridge structures. The first, which is the primary structural consideration of this Project, is a fracture-critical steel Pratt truss bridge of six simple spans each 166 feet in length. The 35-foot-wide deck carries two lanes of traffic and a pedestrian sidewalk that is outside of the truss. This Bridge No. 1792 is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is considered structurally deficient with substandard load rating capacity. Adjacent to this structure is Bridge No. 7148 that carries two lanes of northbound/eastbound traffic. It has 12 spans of prestressed concrete girders and is considered in satisfactory condition but has a load rating less than what new bridges are designed to meet. The study identified that the concrete girder bridge no. 7148 is to be replaced with a new 4-Lane Steel Plate Girder Bridge. The existing truss Bridge No. 1792 is to remain in place and be repurposed into a multi-use bridge. NMDOT Bridge will provide bridge design for this project. The selected consultant will coordinate with NMDOT Bridge to propose an efficient construction sequence and strategy. NMDOT will also provide geotechnical explorations and design.
