Specifications include, but are not limited to: Pavement Marking Materials. The placement of Stop Bars and Crosswalk Pavement Markings will be accomplished using traffic marking paint such as a Transline (or equivalent brand) Acrylic Resin High Build Waterborne Traffic Paint or Swarcoplast Thin film MMA Cold Plastic 98:2 (or equivalent brand). The placement shall follow both manufacture’s recommendations for preparation and application with the special provisions in this contract as the primary specification. The placement will be at a 30 mil thickness for both. Contractor must submit specifications for the products to the Engineer for approval prior to application. Surface Preparation. Before applying coatings, surfaces must be clean and dry. Remove all grease, oil, gasoline, dirt, grass, loose gravel, old, peeling or flaking paint, and other contaminants. The contractor must Shot Blast or Sand Blast the area prior to the application. Work for this is considered subsidiary to other bid items. 12” and 24” Grinding. These bid items are to be used for removal of 12” transverse crosswalks when replacing with a continental crosswalk. 24” grinding is used to remove excess material if and where it is needed. Both are directed by the Engineer prior to removal. These bid items are not to be assumed for use as standard surface preparation. Initial estimation shows few occurrences. Weather Limitations for MMA. Surface, air and material temperature should be between 40 - 105 ºF, and at least 5oF above the dew point. Relative humidity must be less than 75%. Weather Limitations for High Build Paint. Surface, air and material temperature should be between 50 - 105 ºF, and at least 5oF above the dew point. Relative humidity must be less than 75%. Traffic Control. The contractor must follow the MUTCD for all traffic control. Routing traffic across intersections in the left turn lane is not permitted. Work for this is considered subsidiary to other bid items.
