All correspondence must be made through the Vendor Portal. Specifications include, but are not limited to: Contract Garage Mechanic(s) to assist Public Works operations: 1. Mechanic must be dependable and have a current and valid driver’s license. Please list applicable qualifications mechanic(s) have as a mechanic, and additional certifications that mechanic(s) may have such as a CDL driver’s license and any state vehicle inspection licenses or attach a resume. 2. Mechanic shall be neat in appearance, be well mannered and report for work prior to the scheduled shift. The Director of Public Works or designee reserves the right to request another mechanic or send someone home if they are deemed unable to perform the duties of the job satisfactorily. 3. Mechanic shall be familiar with tools, machines, and equipment used in a commercial garage that maintains, services, and repairs both diesel and gasoline (light, medium, and heavy-duty) vehicles and equipment needed for winter operations. This includes methods, practices, hazards, and safety precautions and procedures. 4. Mechanic must have the ability to operate a truck or front-end loader to move equipment around as needed and to assist in recovery of immobile (stuck) equipment. 5. Contractor to provide telephone number and address for mechanic performing the work. We frequently communicate using text messaging. 6. Work shall be scheduled and coordinated by the Director of Public Works or designee. Hours of work would typically be scheduled within the Monday to Friday, from 7:00 am to 3:30 pm work schedule, with other hours as needed to accommodate winter operations to include overnight snow removal operations along with work on weekends and holidays. During winter operations, the work shifts will be determined based on the forecast and needs of Augusta Public Works. A typical shift during a winter event could be up to 20 continuous hours with non-standard work hours. We attempt to get workers at least 8 to 10 hours of time off between work shifts. Additionally, based on a forecasted winter event, workers may be scheduled to come in prior to the anticipated start time of an event.
