Specifications include, but are not limited to: The Hawaii Department of Land and Natural Resources, Division of Forestry and Wildlife seeks to fund the implementation of projects that enhance Hawaii’s forests for climate resilience and support native ecosystem protection and management. Projects should focus on the following areas: Areas eligible for the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS), Regional Conservation Partnership Program (RCPP), Alternative Funding Arrangement (AFA) (see Attachment D). Specifically: o Upper elevation native forests that receive the most rainfall and are critical to recharging fresh water supplies1 o Lands with the highest potential carbon sequestration if reforested23 o Sites that are part of a landscape-scale watershed management strategy to lessen the impacts from climate change, reduce flooding and erosion into coral reefs, and protect biological diversity. This is the second round of a Request For Proposal solicitation. Projects that received funding in the first round were generally large, landscape-scale projects covering hundreds or thousands of acres, and/or many thousands of native plantings. Potential purposes of these actions must be: enhanced ground water recharge, reduction of erosion, enhanced wildlife habitat, and/or enhanced carbon sequestration. Please briefly explain in the narrative why these actions will achieve these purposes. ● Weed Control: Control of priority invasive weed species4 . Prevention and control of incipient invasive species that have a high potential to spread into important watershed areas. ● Planting: Re-vegetation with native plants, especially in areas with the highest potential for carbon sequestration if reforested.
