Specifications include, but are not limited to: The City of Dover, New Hampshire is requesting sealed bids for bridge repairs for the Chestnut Street Bridge over the Cocheco River. The project is located at the bridge (No. 128/122) crossing the Cocheco River on Chestnut Street in the City of Dover. The project consists of removing the pavement, membrane and sidewalks on the bridge, repairing deteriorated concrete in the bridge deck, cold planing approach pavement, reconstructing the bridge sidewalks, and installing new bridge membrane, new bridge pavement and new wearing course pavement to the limits shown on the plans; 1. Prior to beginning construction, the Contractor shall make a record of the existing paint pavement markings. Upon completion of the work, the pavement markings shall be replicated in kind with Item 632.014 Retroreflective Paint Pave. Marking, 4” Line. 2. After removal of the existing asphalt wearing surface and membrane, the Contractor and Engineer shall jointly sound the entire deck surface and sidewalk by use of sounding hammers or chain dragging to determine areas of delamination or deterioration. 3. Provide new anchorage assemblies for the bridge railing removed during sidewalk reconstructions, subsidiary to Item 563.8 Resetting Bridge Rail. 4. Item 544.3 Reinforcing Steel (Contractor Detailed) for the Base Bid shall include, as a minimum, new sidewalk reinforcing bars, where existing bars were removed during the sidewalk removal work. Item 544.01 Reinforcing Steel for Alternative Bid #1 shall include, as a minimum, new overhang reinforcing bars, where existing bars are removed during the overhang removal work. All reinforcing steel to remain shall be inspected for damage or corrosion jointly by the Contractor and Engineer. 5. The Base Bid shall assume that the concrete around the bridge light pole is in satisfactory condition and the bridge light pole will remain in place. The concrete sidewalk at the bridge light pole location shall be sawcut at the back of bridge railing 1” deep to provide a clean removal line. The joint between the new sidewalk concrete with existing shall be sealed with an approved epoxy material listed under Item 526.2 on the NHDOT Qualified Products Lists, and shall be subsidiary to 502.101. Contractor shall take extreme care to retain the existing bridge light pole, including additional reinforcing steel in the sidewalk, lamp post anchorage, and lamp post. 6. The Alternative Bid #1 shall assume the bridge light pole will need to removed and reset. All costs to remove and reset the bridge light pole, including new lamp post anchorage shall be included in Item 502.102 Removal of Existing Bridge Structure. 1. The Contractor shall submit a Traffic Control Plan to the City of Dover for approval. 2. The Contractor shall use Flaggers (Item 618.7) as necessary to direct motorists through the work zone. Use of this item will require concurrence with the City prior to use to be eligible for payment. 3. The City of Dover prefers to maintain two 12-foot lanes as shown in the Contract Plans; however, the City of Dover will evaluate one lane of alternating traffic if requested by the Contractor. One short-term complete closure of the project area may also be evaluated by the City of Dover if requested by the Contractor. The bid shall account for all costs to implement one lane of alternating traffic or a complete closure, including by not limited to temporary traffic signals or additional signage as needed. Pedestrian access over the Chestnut Street bridge shall be maintained at all times during construction.
