Specifications include, but are not limited to: The Joint Special School Building Committee of Nashua, New Hampshire is interested in procuring geotechnical services for planning for construction and/or renovations Birch Hill and Main Dunstable Elementary Schools. 1. Review available engineering reports and construction information for projects in the site vicinity and the currently proposed project. 2. Drill, log, and sample borings to support proposed building additions. See attached drawings (Harriman Exhibit 1) for each of the two schools, for proposed additions. 3. Excavate test pits in the locations identified on the attached drawings. a. Verify presence and size of existing footings/foundations where new additions abut the existing building. b. Depth of bottom of foundation wall, referenced from finished floor elevation. c. Determine elevation of existing seasonal high groundwater table at each of the test pit locations. d. Determine site-specific soil type at each of the proposed test pit locations to facilitate an understanding of infiltration rates to be used as part of the stormwater design and associated modeling. Please note that investigation relative to 3.c. and 3.d. shall be completed by a certified New Hampshire soil scientist. 4. Standard penetration resistance test per ASTM D1586 at approx. 5-foot intervals. 5. Field boring logs based on recovered samples, auger cuttings, and field observations per ASTM D2488. 6. Record groundwater at each boring. 7. Evaluate acquired data for foundation types, floor slabs, foundation drainage, paved areas, and potential issues with excavation, and other geotechnical related issues which might impact design or construction.
