Specifications include, but are not limited to: A. Engineered Wood Fiber Specifications a) Engineered Wood Fibers shall be manufactured wood fiber comprised of soft woods consisting of randomly sized wood fibers, the majority of which do not exceed 1.5’’ in length and containing 10% to 20% fines to aid in compaction. b) Shall be manufactured from 100% virgin wood, directly from the forest to the mill. Engineered Wood Fibers shall not contain any recycled wood products or any wood containing paint, chemicals, or additives. c) Engineered Wood Fibers must meet and/or exceed the following standards of ASTM. 1. ASTM F-1292-09 Impact Attenuation of Surface Systems under and around Playground Equipment. 2. ASTM F-2075-10 A Standard Specification for Engineered Wood Fiber for use as a playground safety surface under and around playground equipment. 3. ASTM F-2223-15 ASTM Standards on Playground Surfacing d) Contractor shall provide a minimum of three (3) qualified engineered wood fiber vendors and pricing for the City to choose from. B. Installation Method Specifications a) Installation shall be by means of blower truck application. b) Blower trucks shall have the option of 60 or 90 cubic yards of material per delivery. c) Blower trucks must be equipped with dust control measures. d) Contractor shall perform cleanup of overblown material upon completion. e) Blower truck shall be capable of a maximum hose reach of 400’. f) Contractor shall follow all local and state vehicle requirements during installation to ensure public safety. This shall include but not be limited to backers, flagmen, cones, etc. g) EWF installations will only be allowed Monday through Friday at the agreed upon time and will be supervised by an appointed City of Mesa employee. C. Site Preparation a) Contractor to supply all equipment and labor necessary for the described work. b) The Contractor is responsible for making themselves familiar with all existing site conditions at the various Park sites with the City of Mesa including all ingress/egress access and all amenities that are to be protected, as well as existing plant material that is to be protected in place.
