Specifications include, but are not limited to: Unit 1.1 & 1.2: 1.1 can be accessed from Barnes Canyon Rd, approximately 2 miles from the airport. Both units can be accessed from Dry Creek Rd, approximately 1.75 miles from the wildlife look road. Units 1.1 & 1.2 will be treated with a variable density thinning. The objective is to maintain the patchy pattern of regeneration <5’’ DBH left by the Legion Lake fire. Large areas within each unit will require little to no cutting. Patches of regeneration should be cut according to the diameter distribution of the patch: • 4’’-5’’ DBH trees should only be cut if they were closer than 4’ from trees of the same size (approximately 10% reduction) • 2’’-3’’ DBH trees should be cut so that they are at least 4’ from each other and 4’’-5’’ trees (approximately 50% reduction) • < 2’’ DBH trees should be cut a minimum of 4’ from all larger trees and reduced in total density by 85%. • Table 2 provides general guidelines for the final target density/spacing by DBH class. Combined (all DBH classes) target density and spacing is also listed – but regeneration patches should not be thinned to a uniform density – the spacing figure is only an average. Unit 2: Access from Badger Hole visitor area. The only live trees cut should be damaged. Additionally, hanging deadfall throughout the unit should be cut to the ground in accordance with provision 3.7.1. Finally, all prior existing dead wood/slash on the ground within 33’ of the hiking trail should be cut in accordance with provision 3.7.1. Unit 3: Walk-in unit accessed from SD-87. Areas within unit boundary but not under contract to be cut are marked with pink flagging. Unit 4: This unit is east of the Centennial Trail cabin. Piles must not be placed within 10 feet of powerline right of way, or within 15 feet of a roadway. In addition to piling green material, dead and down material will also be piled: • Hanging deadfall should be severed from the stump and must be limbed so that boles are resting on the ground, all cut material < 4 inches in diameter must be placed on green piles. • Dead and down material < 4 inches in diameter and exceeding 18 inches in height must be limbed and placed on green piles. Unit 5: This unit is west of the Centennial Trail cabin. Piles must not be placed within 15 feet of a roadway. Piles must be placed in designated locations.
