Specifications include, but are not limited to: Tree Removal – Bowling Green considers incident-damaged trees to be eligible for this program if the tree has a diameter of 6 inches or greater measured 4.5 feet above ground level (trees smaller than this will be considered incidental brush/vegetative debris) and the tree: • Has a split trunk; • Has heartwood exposed; • Has a broken canopy; or • Is leaning at an angle greater than 30 degrees.; Trees that are no longer standing (due to storm damage or volunteer activity) but are more or less intact are the same pay item as a standing tree for this program. Downed trees that have already been broken down by others into smaller pieces will be paid as vegetative debris removal.; Hangers – Removal of broken limbs or branches that are 2 inches or larger in diameter (measured at the point of break) are eligible for this program. Only the minimum cut necessary to remove the hazard is eligible. For example, cutting a branch at the trunk is ineligible if the threat can be eliminated by cutting it at the closest main branch junction. Hangers are paid per tree serviced, not per branch cut. All hangers in each eligible tree are to be removed for the unit cost pay item.; Stump Removal – Stumps may be either extracted, flush cut, or ground as directed on the service ticket prepared by the City’s representative. Where stumps have 50 percent or more of the root-ball exposed, extraction of the stump and filling the root-ball hole may be eligible. The pay item price for a stump extraction includes extraction, transport, disposal, and filling the root-ball hole. If the stump is ground the pay item includes grinding, removal of excess chips, and filling the root-ball hole if necessary. Flush cutting a stump is a pay item. The remaining flush cut stump must be no more than four inches higher than the adjacent ground level.; Vegetative Debris Removal – Vegetative debris generated by the work listed above is incidental to that work and not a separate pay item. However, there may be properties that will receive service under this contract that have storm generated vegetative debris that needs to be removed that is not associated with one of these items. Contractor must secure agreement from the City’s representative before removing vegetative debris that the contractor does not believe to be associated with either a tree removal, hanger, or stump removal. In these cases the contractor and City’s representative will take measurements of the debris and agree to a quantity for the removal in cubic yards. Debris to be removed from the property and disposed of as described above. General Labor & Equipment – In order to complete the work it may be necessary to complete work not otherwise specified above. Submit an hourly rate sheet for the equipment and labor the contractor can provide to accomplish incidental work not otherwise specified.
