Specifications include, but are not limited to: Heifers to initially leave ISU September 1, 2022 Total number of heifers will be 350-400 Holstein and Jersey. (less than 10% Jersey) Heifers to be picked up at ISU Dairy once monthly at approximately 5 months of age. Heifers to be returned to ISU Dairy approximately 60 days pre-calving. Target ADG of 1.8 lbs. or greater Vaccines to be given at heifer facility: o Pre-breeding: IBR, BVD, BRSV, PI3, Lepto, Clostridium o 90 days pre calving: Bovilis Gaurdian Veterinary services will be provided by contractor according to service providers Standard Operating Procedure. Minimum breeding age of 12 months Sexed semen to be used in first 2 breedings, Angus semen to be used for 3rd service o Bulls and mating to be chosen and paid for by ISU Heifer to be sold if not pregnant by 18 months old Heifer progress, health issues, pregnancy rate, conception rate, and deaths to be reported quarterly. ISU staff to visit heifer site Quarterly Ability for ISU to bring specific small groups of heifers back to the farm at any time for research or teaching purposes. ISU Dairy Management to visit site prior to final acceptance. (ISU is looking for professional facilities, staff, animal safety, and a well-managed facility)
