Specifications include, but are not limited to: 1.Flood protection: During Tropical Storm Irene, Sacketts Brook was attached to its wetland floodplain, protecting the Town from flooding.2.Assuring an adequate, clean water supply for the Town’s Water System: The east side of thewetland is a major part of the Town well’s Source Protection Area.3.Protecting wetland wildlife habitat: The Sacketts Brook wetland complex is used by 120 birdspecies, 18 of which are Vermont Species of Greatest Conservation Need; by at least 26 mammalspecies; and by at least 10 species of reptiles and amphibians, two of which are designated as highpriority SGCN. The Sand Hill Wetland (called that because Sand Hill Road runs through it) is awildlife viewing destination for both residents and visitors.
