Specifications include, but are not limited to: provide and install new equipment to handle sand and manure separation system at the ISU Dairy Farm. The Project does not involve renovations to the existing freestall bedding from a compost-based system to deep sand bedding. This equipment will be necessary for facility operations used in teaching, research, and outreach activities; 3.3.1. Manure Collection: 3.3.1.1. The process of separating sand from manure shall have several steps to clean the sand for reuse and separate out the manure solids from the liquid manure. The process shall begin with the collection of the sand-laden manure from the barns with the vacuum truck and deposited in the manure reception pit.; 3.3.1.2. The manure reception pit shall have agitation if required to maintain the consistency of the sand-laden manure.; 3.3.1.3. Float control shall be provided to disengage the agitator.; 3.3.2. Sand-Manure Separation: 3.3.2.1. Primary sand recovery system.; 3.3.2.2. A feed auger shall transport the sand-laden manure to the sand separator.; 3.3.2.2.1. The minimum flow rate through the auger shall be 20 GPM.; 3.3.2.3. Sand-manure separator.: 3.3.2.3.1. Requires inputs of recycled water and fresh water.; 3.3.2.3.2. Maximum fresh water input of 2 GPM during operation.; 3.3.2.3.3. Minimum of 85% sand removal; 3.3.2.3.4. Sand removed in this step shall be conveyed through a dewatering screen.; 3.3.2.3.4.1. Recycled water from process shall return to the sump tank.; 3.3.3. Fine Sand Separation: 3.3.3.1. Secondary sand recover system.; 3.3.3.2. Effluent consisting of manure-laden water and fine sand from the sand-manure separator shall pass through a debris screen and be contained in a sump tank.; 3.3.3.3. Sump tank shall have agitation if required to maintain consistency of the effluent.: 3.3.3.3.1. Float control shall be provided to disengage the agitator.; 3.3.3.3.2. Pump shall be provided to transport effluent from the tank to the hydrocyclone for additional removal of fine sand.; 3.3.3.4. The hydrocyclone shall provide secondary processing for sand recovery.: 3.3.3.4.1. Minimum of 5% of sand shall be recovered from effluent.; 3.3.3.4.2. Sand removed by this process shall be conveyed to a fine sand washer.; 3.3.3.4.3. Washed sand shall be conveyed through a dewatering screen.; 3.3.3.4.4. Recycled water from process shall return to the sump tank.; 3.3.3.5. Effluent containing manure solids and water shall return to the sump tank.; 3.3.4. Manure Solid-Liquid Separation: 3.3.4.1. Suspended manure solids in water from sump tank shall be mixed with parlor graywater in a process tank.; 3.3.4.2. Process tank shall have agitation if required to maintain suspension of the manure solids in the liquid.; 3.3.4.2.1. Float control shall be provided to disengage the agitator.; 3.3.4.3. Suspended manure solids in water shall be pumped to the solid-liquid separator.; 3.3.4.4. Solid-liquid separator shall combine manure solids with fresh water.
