Specifications include, but are not limited to: Contractor must be a Certified Interpreter of the Deaf and hold a BEI certification. Contractor will oversee and monitor Deaf and Hard of Hearing individuals in the following areas. Interpreter Responsibilities: A. Provide access to instruction B. Assist students in content areas as needed. C. Help with assessments if interpreter is needed D. Will attend ARD meetings as needed E. Will provide detailed monthly billing reports. Indicating each student seen, service provided and length of time. F. Contractor is not to assist teachers while leaving deaf students without access to language. G. Contractor interpreters are not assigned to other duties on campus during their interpreting services to students (no lunch, bus duty unless providing access to deaf students). H. Be on time to class I. Sit where the student can easily see you, the teacher and the blackboard. J. Become familiar with special vocabulary. Request textbooks, handouts , and materials ahead of time for review before class. K. Wear appropriate clothing. Be neat and professional. L. Act in a professional manner. Do not bring undue attention to yourself while interpreting. M. Do not carry on personal conversations with the student or the Teacher. N. Refer student questions or problems to the teacher. Clarify points when needed, but do O. not assume the teachers role. P. Do not discipline, monitor student behavior, or assume instructional responsibilities. Q. Communicate with the teacher any problems concerning the deaf student. When submitting pricing structure, the quotation shall be a daily rate which will be inclusive of all travel and incidental expenses. The daily rate shall be based on an eight-hour workday. R. Contractor will provide detailed billing reports for each month indicating each student seen, service provided and time length of each service by the 10th of the following month. S. This service cannot be performed by personnel under contract with the Lufkin Independent School District, as this needed consultative and/or technical service is of a specialized, specific nature. The Contractor and/or agency meets certification, licensure and/or registration requirements to perform this task; has no vested interest in the state, regional or local programs of special education, and by previous training and/or experience is qualified to provide the service.
