Specifications include, but are not limited to: This project will consist of the Construction of a new sanitary system for the Pottawattamie Rest Area located from Rest Area to mile marker 19. Please note this is a re-bid with changes extending the contract period and attribute requirements.; SANITARY SEWER AND FORCE MAIN: A. Refer to SUDAS Divisions 3, 4, 5 and 6 for gravity sewer and force main installation requirements. Refer to Special Provisions Part 3, Division 22 for piping at the pump station site.; 1. Refer to Special Provisions Part 3, Section 22 70 05 for specifications for Air Release Valve Set.; B. Verify all field dimensions and elevations prior to commencing installation. Report any discrepancies to the Engineer.; C. Construct so that the minimum amount of trench is open at any time, and that the project vicinity is restored as work progresses.; D. Connect to the existing or proposed sanitary manholes as shown on the construction drawings.; E. PIPE MATERIALS – The sanitary sewer pipe (except for piping at pump station site specified in Part 3, Section 22 70 05) shall be as follows. Other materials may be used if approved by Engineer and Owner.; 1. 8” diameter sewer, trenched: a. PVC AWWA C900, DR 18 in accordance with SUDAS Section 5010 with class F-2 bedding.; 2. Force Main: See Force Main Construction Notes on plan sheet A.03. a. Any Ductile Iron force main shall be provided with Protecto 401/Ceramic epoxy lining or engineer approved equal in accordance with SUDAS Section 4010, with Class P-1 bedding.; F. SEWER INSTALLATION: 1. Install sewer pipes and manholes in accordance with the SUDAS Sections 3010, 3020, 4010, 4060, 6010, and as shown on the construction drawings, and as specified in these Special Provisions.; 2. Exercise care in handling, transporting, and placing pipe and manholes to prevent damage to the pipe or lining. Use exterior slings or suitable forklift to handle pipe.; G. MANHOLES: 1. Install sanitary sewer manholes of the specified size and types as shown on the construction drawings. ; 2. Provide bolt down covers where indicated and external chimney seals on all manholes not located in pavement. Provide internal chimney seals in all other locations and where required.; 3. Attach all frame to manhole structure as specified in Figure 6010.601.; 4. Conform to the dimensions, elevations, locations and connection orientations as shown on the construction drawings and detail drawings.; H. TRENCHLESS CONSTRUCTION – Contractor shall install carrier pipe inside casing pipe by trenchless construction in the locations shown on the construction drawings, and without casing pipe by trenchless construction in the locations as shown on the construction drawings.; 1. Provide details of proposed trenchless operations including: a. Magnitude of overcut proposed and method of controlling monitoring line and grade of trenchless operation.; b. Quality control methods proposed for trenchless operations including supervisory control to ensure work is performed in accordance with Contract Documents.; 2. Contractor is responsible for means and methods of the trenchless construction operations and shall ensure the safety of the work, the Contractor’s employees, and the public and adjacent property.; 3. No price adjustment will be made for the rate of trenchless construction production, dewatering or removal of rocks, boulders or other material.; 4. No voids or pockets shall be left in any portion of the work. If loss of ground occurs, fill the resulting void with suitable material, such as grout, as accepted by the Engineer at the Contractor’s expense.
