Specifications include, but are not limited to: 3.3.1 The center of the badge shall contain a 0.015 inch deep circular recess area to receive the Great Seal of California.; 3.3.2 Outside this recess area shall be a smooth, circular band, on which the following inscriptions shall be made with enamel-filled characters: 3.3.2.1 “CALIFORNIA HIGHWAY PATROL” shall be inscribed on the top of the band in a clockwise direction – such that the “C” at the beginning and “L” at the end are balanced horizontally. The enamel-filled lettering shall be in upper case block letters, use Arial style font, and be 13/64 inch in height. ; 3.3.2.2 A five-digit badge number (provided by the CHP) shall be inscribed on the bottom of the band in a counter-clockwise direction – such that it’s centered at the bottom of the band. The enamel-filled numbering shall use Times New Roman style font and be 13/64 inch in height.; 3.3.2.3 A “punctuation dot” shall be inscribed on both sides of the five-digit badge number, to set the badge number apart from the “CALIFORNIA HIGHWAY PATROL” inscription. The size of the dot shall be consistent with a period punctuation mark, in the font used for the badge number. The dot shall be placed in the middle of the band (radially) and in the middle of each space between “CALIFORNIA HIGHWAY PATROL” and the badge number.; 3.3.3 In the center of each of the seven star points shall be a “flourish”, where the designs are depicted on page 4 of “8455-6037_BS - Attachment 2 – Drawings”.; 3.3.4 There shall be a narrow, smooth border around the outer edge of the seven star points.; 3.3.5 The surface of the badge shall contain concentric circular ridges that shall span radially, from the outer edge of the circular band with enamel-filled characters to the inner edge of the smooth border around the outer edge of the seven star points. Note: These ridges are depicted in the image on page 1 of “8455-6037_BS - Attachment 2 – Drawings”.; THE GREAT SEAL OF CALIFORNIA: 3.4.1 The Great Seal of California shall be a separate component affixed into the dedicated circular recess area at the center of the badge.; 3.4.2 The design and dimensions of the Great Seal insert shall be as defined in “8455-6037_BS - Attachment 2 – Drawings”: The design shall adhere to the image on page 4.; 3.4.3 The front of the Great Seal insert shall be 1/10, 10 karat yellow gold-filled, given that it shall be stamped from a 1/10, 10 karat yellow gold-filled, yellow gold-colored alloy sheet metal material that is corrosion and tarnish resistant.; 3.4.4 Before installation, the Great Seal insert shall be domed to the same contour as the recess (after the badge has been domed).; 3.4.5 The Great Seal insert shall be affixed by sweat solder or brazing. ; 3.5 BADGE ATTACHMENTS: 3.5.1 A rank banner ribbon shall be installed at the bottom of each badge.; 3.5.1.1 One rank designation shall be inscribed in enamel-filled lettering on each of these banner ribbons.; 3.5.1.2 The list of rank designations currently includes: “OFFICER”, “SERGEANT”, “LIEUTENANT”, “CAPTAIN”, “ASSISTANT CHIEF”, “CHIEF”, “ASSISTANT COMMISSIONER”, “DEPUTY COMMISSIONER”, AND “COMMISSIONER” (where “OFFICER” will be used for bulk orders and any rank designation may be used for replacement badges). The CHP to provide the required rank designation(s) for replacement badges.; 3.5.1.3 The enamel-filled lettering shall be in upper case block letters, use Times New Roman style font, and be 5/32 inch in height.; 3.5.1.4 The style and position of this bottom banner ribbon shall be as shown on page 1 of “8455-6037_BS - Attachment 2 – Drawings”.; 3.5.2 (For completeness, but not part of this agreement) When applicable, a banner ribbon shall be installed at the top of the badge.; 3.5.2.1 One inscription shall be made in enamel-filled lettering on each of these banner ribbons.; 3.5.2.2 The list of inscriptions currently includes: “HONORABLY RETIRED” and “IN MEMORIAM”.; 3.5.2.3 The enamel-filled lettering shall be in upper case block letters, use Times New Roman style font, and be 9/64 inch in height.; 3.5.2.4 The style and position of this top banner ribbon (which are both different than the rank banner ribbon) shall be as shown on page 1 of “8455-6037_BS - Attachment 2 – Drawings”.
