Specifications include, but are not limited to: Provide headstone installation and re-installation services at the Southern Maine Veterans Cemetery on an as-needed basis. Approximately 150 installations or re-installations will be needed during the contract period. The headstones provided to the cemeteries for veterans and their dependents are roughly 48” tall and 230 lbs. Two types of installation will be used: Headstones installed in cremation burial areas: A hole is dug (8x12” x 14-18” x 22” deep, approximately 4” of crushed rock is tamped into the bottom of the hole. The stone is aligned in both directions, level and plumb with approximately 18” below grade and 24” above (+/- 1 ½” to allow for smooth transition from stone to stone). Stone is embedded with tamped ¾” crushed gravel to surface. Headstones installed in full-size casket burial areas: A hole is dug (8x12” x 14-18” x (approximately 19” deep, to the top of vault), concrete pavers or bricks are used to shim up to the required 18” below grade and this shim surface is leveled. The stone is installed and aligned in both directions, level and plumb with approximately 18” below grade and 24” above (+/- 1 ½” to allow for smooth transition from stone to stone).
