Specifications include, but are not limited to: The Maine State Ferry Service (hereinafter MSFS) operates year-round ferry service from mainland ports to the islands of Islesboro, Vinalhaven, North Haven, Swan’s, Frenchboro, and Matinicus. Route distances range from three miles (Lincolnville to Islesboro) to 23 miles (Rockland to Matinicus). Fleet vessels have Stability Letters for and Certificates of Inspection for Partially Protected Route; Lakes, Bays & Sounds; Cold Water Service. The vessel shall have a main propulsion plant consisting of two CAT C-18 600 hp @1800 RPM diesel engines that meet the applicable EPA Emission Standards for newly manufactured marine engines of their class at such time that the construction of the vessel commences (in conformance with EPA Emissions Standards “keel laying” requirements); and two Twin Disc MGX 516 4.04:1 ratio reverse/reduction gears. Generators, which also meet the applicable EPA Emission Standards, shall consist of two CAT C4.4 constant speed 99 KW maximum ship’s service generator sets (SSDGs). The two generators shall be fitted with clutched hydraulic PTO motors for powering the bow thruster. The vessel shall have a Veth VT-50 transverse tunnel bow thruster, powered by a hydraulic motor mounted on thruster unit. The vessel shall conform to all regulations that apply to a 46 CFR Subchapter “T” Passenger Vessel. The vessel is designed to have a Gross Regulatory Tonnage of less than 100 GT. The Intended Service Life of this vessel shall be (25) Twenty-five years. All products and equipment provided, whether referenced in these SPECIFICATIONS or not, shall be “supported” by the manufacturer for a minimum (10) ten year life span.
