Specifications include, but are not limited to: The Iowa DNR is seeking to hire two companies who have staff that can climb trees. The work will be in Allamakee, Clayton, Delaware, Dubuque, and Winneshiek counties of Iowa. The purpose will be to cut down branches that have an abundance of white pine cones so those cones can be retrieved by a DNR employee on the ground. The DNR will locate the trees to have seed collected from and the DNR will coordinate with the contractor on when the seed is ripe (usually during the week before or after August 20). The DNR will provide instructions and obtain landowner permission where the trees are located and will accompany the contractor during the work. The contractor will supply all necessary equipment to safely climb the trees and cut branches while minimizing damage to the tree being climbed. Average height to climb is 50 feet up to 125 feet. These sites will be in rural areas so that native seed sources are being collected, not within communities. Some sites may have several trees to collect cones from.
