Specifications include, but are not limited to: The renovation and expansion proposal to Alumni Coliseum enhances the university’s profile by improving athletic program spaces including men’s and women’s basketball, indoor and beach volleyball. The addition of a competition swim & dive pool will provide more opportunities for Division I athletics, Exercise Science classes, Model High School swim opportunities, and hosting large scale swim meets for the service region. The student-athlete academic center and academic class spaces will be expanded and receive enhancements.; • Alumni Coliseum; o Improved multi-level seating, club and suite seating, building & mechanical services; o Renovated student-athlete areas including locker rooms, sports medicine, sports performance, and student-athlete academic areas; o New office spaces; o New expanded front and side lobbies; o Volleyball Competition / Basketball Practice Facility; • New Natatorium; o 8 lane (75’ width) 50 meter pool with two bulkheads; o Seating for up to 700; • Expanded Baseball Indoor Development Center Improvements that will support the academic mission of the university; • Hosting student recruitment events including summer orientation, student spotlight events, and academic courses; • Host for multiple graduation ceremonies; • Location of the student-athlete academic center Academic offerings post-renovation; • Infrastructure improvements for Broadcasting & Electronic Media majors who receive practical experience supporting events within Alumni Coliseum; • Gym space is at a premium for academic classes. Multiple academic programs including Exercise Science, Education, Health Promotion, Recreation and Park Administration classes would have better access to gym space across campus with this expansion; • More than double the space allocated for the student-athlete academic center Hosted events beyond EKU Athletics include; • Sporting events such as the All A Classic – volleyball and basketball, District & Region tournaments, Cheer Elite Showcases, Battlezone Competition, regional graduation ceremonies, Presidential visits, City business events, Science fairs, job fairs, sport camps, and other town & gown events; • Expanded opportunities for promoter driven concerts and other events such as Disney on Ice, specialty entertainment events and the like (Note: no ice floor is in this program); • Events hosting outside of EKU Athletics totaled an estimated 87,500 participants; • Including EKU Athletics, the estimated total 171,000 participants Economic Impact of Alumni Coliseum; • Research completed by Dr. James Maples and Dr. Thomas Martin concluded:; o Non-local resident attendees spent an estimated $3.7 million in Richmond as a result of participating in Alumni Coliseum events.; o Participants expenditure generated $1.2 million in labor income in Madison County; o Events at Alumni Coliseum supported an estimated 64 additional jobs to run these events; • The Alumni Coliseum Renovation will provide new revenue generation opportunities including:; o Improved seating with chairbacks; ▪ Capacity; • Up to 6000 for sporting events; • Up to 7500 for concerts and other entertainment events; o Create VIP seating and club spaces throughout the arena providing additional revenue generation opportunities; o Attracting additional events such as concerts, family entertainment, and other sporting events (boxing, WWE, exhibition matches) suitable to meet the demand between venue capacities such as the Center for the Arts vs. Rupp Arena
