Specifications include, but are not limited to: The demand for childcare exceeds the current water/ wastewater infrastructure capacity within Lamoille. There is a documented need for childcare. Further research is needed to determine why there are limited childcare opportunities. It is important to determine the issues preventing additional childcare. The lack of childcare is negatively impacting our communities, restricting economic development, and creating hardships for families and businesses. Covid-19 continues to exacerbate the problem and continues to be an issue. The towns that will be studied are Cambridge, Johnson, Stowe, and Wolcott. These towns all have some level of a public water or wastewater systems. The 4 towns are located centrally across the county with the two major highways traveling through each of them. The major highways allow these towns to be considered prime locations for childcare infrastructure due to the heavy commuter traffic each town is exposed to. LCPC will select a consultant to determine what water/wastewater infrastructure impairments are restricting childcare providers from expanding or moving into the towns outlined above. LCPC has conducted preliminary research into current water/wastewater infrastructure conditions, current childcare providers in each town, and state regulations regarding childcare. This information will be provided to the selected consultant. The selected consultant will work with LCPC, The Lamoille Family Center, consultant with childcare expertise, and participating towns to gather information on the current water/ wastewater infrastructure capabilities of the towns as well as outlining the water/wastewater infrastructure changes that would have to be made to accommodate the increase in childcare that the county desperately needs. The target childcare capacity is outlined in a study that the Lamoille Family Center conducted in 2021. The selected consultant will be provided a copy of the Supply and Demand Study for review and consideration throughout this study.
