Specifications include, but are not limited to: The Licensed Private Duty Nurse (LPDN) is exclusively responsible for all school health, nursing and medical services the Student may require at school, according to the health care plan with as little interruption as possible in the student’s academic programming. Services may include: Administration of medications Performance of nursing procedures such as oral and tracheal suctioning, tube feedings, catheterization, oxygen administration, etc. Oral feedings and fluid administration Personal hygiene and toileting needs Monitoring health status during the day such as vital signs, pulse oximeter, etc. Seizure intervention and management Positioning in wheelchair, stander, etc. Assisting with transport in the wheelchair in the classroom and around the campus Accompanying the student on any field trips Accompanying the student on the bus to and from school Emergency actions in the school setting Carryover of occupational and physical therapy activities as deemed appropriate by the teacher and therapists Accompany the student at all times, unless otherwise specified in the health care plan Anything further that involves the safety and well-being of the student The LPDN in attendance with the student will be responsible for care and maintenance of the student’s durable medical equipment brought with the student to school. The LPDN notifies the student’s parent/guardian of any concerns related to the student’s equipment and supplies. Examples of equipment & supplies: Braces Feeding tubes Glasses Catheters Suctioning and nebulizer machines Anything further required to aid the disability(ies) of the student
