Specifications include, but are not limited to: Contractor shall provide all labor, equipment, materials, traffic control and incidentals necessary to remove and replace existing guardrail, posts, blocks, terminal sections and impact attenuators along Department maintained corridors. Contractor is to repair or replace with like kind systems or updated systems when the existing system or terminal end is no longer available or damaged to such a significant extent that it is in the best interest of the Department and the traveling public to install new current standard material, complete in place, rather than repair the existing system. The determination of when an existing guardrail system and/or crashworthy end terminal is significantly damaged such that it requires installation of a new system and/or terminal, rather than repair, or when an existing system and/or terminal requires adjusting the location will be made by the Department.; The estimated length of guardrail to be replaced will vary by location. Work zones will be restricted to 2-mile increments and will not be in conflict with other work zones. Contractor will complete all work on one installation prior to extending operations to the next installation, unless otherwise approved by the Division’s Maintenance Chief; The Department will mark all salvageable guardrail prior to removal. The Contractor will be responsible for hauling off all unusable rail, blocks, posts, terminal sections, impact attenuators, and incidentals. All recyclable metals will be delivered to nearest maintenance section shop. Contractor may use maintenance site locations for storage of new materials prior to the commencement of work with approval from Division’s Maintenance Chief. The contractor may be allowed to use Department owned material upon request and approval from the Maintenance Chief in the event materials are unable to be acquired in a timely fashion. The cost(s) of any Department supplied material(s) will be deducted from the final invoice of each Job Order.; All guardrail materials and installation shall be in accordance with the Department’s book entitled “Standard Specifications for Road and Bridge Construction”, 2020 edition or as amended by current supplemental specifications and the Departments Specific Detailed Drawings.
